Early childhood is the most crucial aspect of your child’s growing-up years. Things experienced by the child during the ages of 0 to 6 will work as the foundation of their personality, perception, interests, and even fears. It is important, therefore, to take particular care and attention in stimulating their growth during these vital years, in order to help them achieve an overall healthy development.
Infants (0 – 1 year old)
Though not being able to utter coherent words or walk on their own yet, infants are already beginning to perceive the world around them. As the first stage of early childhood right after birth, the main focus will then be to make sure that the infant is properly fed, allowed plenty of time to sleep, and kept clean and comfortable so as to prevent illnesses in their very vulnerable state. Even if they cannot give verbal responses yet, they are already sensitive to what they hear, see, and feel, so talking to them or even letting them listen to music will be helpful.
Toddlers (1 – 3 years old)
As they are now starting to walk and even talk, your little one is already prepared to explore the world around them. It is, therefore, important to maintain an environment where they will be safe yet free to roam around and get to know more about their surroundings. Rubber mats and playpens will greatly help. Your little one will now also be almost ready for preschool, so it’s important to help them prepare. Give them educational toys and picture books, to allow them to familiarize themselves with the basic fundamentals, such as shapes, colors, numbers, and letters. It will also help to place them in a day care center from time to time, especially when you are not around to supervise so that they can be able to socialize.
Preschoolers (2 ½ – 4 years old)
During this stage, your child’s brain is already starting to fully perceive and absorb the information being taught to them. This is also where they will begin to practice independence, refine their socialization skills, and develop fine motor skills. If you think your little one is ready to listen to the teacher, learn their basic fundamentals, and play along or socialize with other kids their age even at 2 ½ years old, then you can already try putting them in a preschool.
